About Corbett National Park

Established in 1936 as Hailey National Park, Jim Corbett National Park is India's oldest and most prestigious national park. Named after the legendary hunter-turned-conservationist Jim Corbett, this 520 sq km wilderness is home to one of the highest tiger densities in India.

The park's diverse landscape encompasses dense sal forests, grasslands, riverine belts, and the stunning Ramganga reservoir. This varied terrain supports an incredible diversity of wildlife, making every safari a unique experience.

Corbett is renowned for its Bengal tigers, with over 260 tigers calling this park home. Beyond tigers, you can encounter:

Best Time to Visit

The park is open from mid-November to mid-June. The best time for tiger sightings is from March to June when the dry summer brings animals to water sources.

Winter months (November-February) offer pleasant weather and excellent birding opportunities. The landscape transforms beautifully through seasons, offering different experiences throughout the year.

  • Dhikala Zone: The most famous zone with highest tiger density
  • Bijrani Zone: Dense sal forest with excellent wildlife
  • Jhirna Zone: Open grasslands, open year-round
  • Durga Devi Zone: Known for bird watching
  • Sitabani Zone: Buffer zone, no permit required
