Dudhwa National Park, located in the Terai belt of Uttar Pradesh along the Indo-Nepal border, is one of India's finest examples of the terai ecosystem. The park spans 490 sq km and is known for its tall grasslands, dense sal forests, and numerous wetlands.
What makes Dudhwa unique is its successful rhino reintroduction program - it's one of the few places in India outside the northeast where you can spot the Indian one-horned rhinoceros.
Dudhwa's diverse habitats support remarkable wildlife:
Dudhwa offers multiple exploration areas:
The park is open from mid-November to mid-June. February to April offers the best wildlife sightings when the grass is shorter. The rhino area (Sonaripur) has restricted access and requires special permits.
One of India's finest terai ecosystems, Dudhwa is unique for its reintroduced rhino population and the largest concentration of barasingha (swamp deer) in the country.
